About the Item
Stephen Shaheen is a Brooklyn-based artist who studied Visual Arts and Classics at Holy Cross College. He went on to train as a stone sculptor in Siena, Italy, then returned to New York to earn his MFA in sculpture from the New York Academy of Art.
He has participated in solo and group exhibitions, and the production of large, Community-driven pieces such as a 100-ton marble and granite installation, Memoria (2011), and Metrobench (2011), created from 5,000 NYC Metrocards. His indoor and outdoor installations are in public and private collections in the United States and Europe. Shaheen’s awards include an artist residency at the Digital Stone Project, a grant from the Italian Cultural Institute, and a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant. His artwork and writing have appeared in The New York Times, Blouin Artinfo, Modern Painters, 1000 New Eco Designs (Laurence King, 2015), and Green Design 2 (Braun, 2013).
