Piero Portaluppi Attributed Pair of Stools in Chestnut Wood, Italy, Late 1930s

About the Item

This elegant pair of stools was manufactured in Italy in the late 1930s. The stools together with the matching console/vanity desk (in the second picture) were part of the interior of a private villa in Milan. The design is attributed to Piero Portaluppi. The distinct design of the stools references the French Art Deco style with the curved shape of the seat. The placement of the horizontal crossed side bars between the outward positioned legs are exemplary for the early Italian Modern era and are a recurring motif in the work of Portaluppi. The stools are made of solid and venereed chestnut wood which has been finished in a brown stain. The stools are in very good original condition.
