Beachcomber Milking Stool in Oiled Walnut
About the Item
The beachcomber milking stool is our take on a Classic, simple form. The hand shaped seat is sculpted for comfort, and the legs are shaved with a block plane lending the walnut a low sheen. We scrupulously select each board for our milking stools, looking for clarity and straightness of grain. The lumber is then milled and shaped by hand into seats, legs, and tight fitting joinery. Each piece is finished with a natural oil and wax blend.

West of Noble
West of Noble is a Los Angeles based design practice dedicated to the pursuit of making wooden furniture by hand. It was founded by designer and itinerant woodworker Greg Mitchell in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2011, but is inspired by a lifetime of travel, time spent on the sea, various odd jobs, wooden sailboats, and friends and family; without whom the company would not exist. Our designs are guided by the making process, and the unpredictable nature of our chosen material. We aim for the simplest line in each piece, believing it is only finished when there is nothing left to take away.

This is not just for aesthetics, the clear grain gives the stool its strength. The boards are then milled to dimension and shaped by hand using a combination of machines and time honored hand tools.
