The Rails collection designed by Gwendoline Porte is a series of modular pieces inspired by the shape of train rails. These pieces are available in three different sizes (H 45cm / H 55cm / H 75cm) and a multiple of finishes (lacquer, wood veneer, brass) and colors. These Rails modules can be used as side tables, seats (stool, chair, bench), consoles, base for a table, pedestal, decorative column. The Rails are definitely creative pieces of furniture.
Gwendoline Porte is a French interior designer, born in 1974, who lives and works in London. Porte recently graduated in Interior Design at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, receiving the Dean’s Award for her work. RAILS, designed as a functional sculpture, was inspired by a cross section of railway tracks and aims to capture the essence of life’s journey. It was exhibited at Decorex London, Paris Design Week and the Decorative Arts Museum in Berlin.

The Gallery stool. A sculptural modern organic side table/stool turned from a solid block of macrocarpa (Monterey Cypress). The wood is finished with a hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life.
The macrocarpa wood will continue to dry out as it finds its equilibrium moisture content of its new environment. Further movement and splits should be expected, and this is part of the wabi-sabi design of the Gallery side tables.
