Rare Pair of Stools by Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig for Gino Maggioni, Italy 40s

About the Item

Rare pair of "Rationalist" stools designed by the Italian architect Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig in the Art Decò period and made by the Maggioni factory. These stools with an elegant essential shape are made of steam-bent wood and seat with the original woven rope. Designed by Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig for the Bocconi University of Milan in 1935, they were then used to furnish private homes. Due to their minimalism, this type of design fully represents the "Rationalist" movement, devoid of any decoration but rich in conceptual content. Characteristic is the wooden framework defined by its open bent construction with rounded contours. The rope seat is intricately braided, adding more texture to the piece. Literature: Cf. Domus II, 1940-49, p. 134; Il mobile deco italiano, p. 193; Il design in Italia 1925-43, p. 90.
