About the Item
'Apila' stool, designed by Rauni Peippo in 1955. Produced by Keravan Puusepäntehdas for Oy Stockmann AB in Finland, 1960s. Made from dark green-lacquered pine. In original condition, with wear consistent with age and use. Underside numbered '2'.

The 'Apila' stool, named after the Finnish word for "clover" and designed in the shape of a four-leaf clover, was produced in the 1960s by Keravan Puusepäntehdas (Kerava Carpentry Factory). It was created by Finnish designer Rauni Peippo (1934-2021) for the Stockmann department store in Helsinki. Peippo initially studied drawing to become a teacher and later trained as an interior designer at the Ateneum Art Museum. In 1964-66, she worked as a young designer in Stockmann’s renowned design office, where furniture concepts were developed and subsequently produced by Keravan Puusepäntehdas.
