About the Item

Torii Oak and Rattan Stool by Luis Gimeno Dimensions: D 35 x W 40 x H 45 cm Materials: Oak, rattan. Available in Red or Black. Please contact us. For this stool, I have been inspired by a Torii gate. The main role of Torii gates is to distinguish the sacred shrine grounds from the human world. Once you walk across the torii gate, it means that you have entered the sacred, special space. Luis Gimeno is a furniture and lighting designer driven by a passion for creating thoughtful, timeless, and unique pieces. His design philosophy is both fun and functional, rooted in the belief that great design should transcend trends and seasons. Instead of mass production, he focuses on quality-driven, low-impact processes that prioritize craftsmanship and sustainability. Each piece is made to measure, ensuring durability and individuality. Inspired by the bold, organic forms of 60s and 70s design, Luis explores playful yet balanced aesthetics, using harmonious and natural color palettes to create graceful, inviting spaces. His work embraces natural materials—sand, glass, and wood—always considering both social and environmental responsibility. Each piece its meant to resonate with an aspect of himself and hopefully others, helping others creating their ideal home.

Rare Japanese Stool by Soetsu Yanagi
By Sori Yanagi
Located in Uccle, BE
This stool was made in 1936 for the Japanese Folk Crafts Museum. Made of Japanese cherry wood and seagrass. Today, you can still see the original benches made for this museum. Yanagi Soetsu (1889 – 1961), also known as Yanagi Muneyoshi, was a Japanese art critic, philosopher, and founder of the Mingei (folk craft) movement in Japan in the late 1920s and 1930s. His son, Sori Yanagi, was a renowned industrial designer. In 1916, Yanagi made his first trip to Korea out of curiosity about Korean crafts. The trip led to the establishment of the Korean Folk Crafts Museum in 1924 and the coining of the term mingei by Yanagi, potters Hamada Shoji (1894–1978) and Kawai Kanjiro...
