Vintage Guldhoj Scandinavian Stool

About the Item

Poul Hundevad trained as a carpenter and, for a time, owned his own cabinetmaking shop and furniture factory. In 1960, he began production of his most famous work, the Guldhøj chair. This stool was inspired by a folding stool from the bronze period, dating to about 1400 BC, that was discovered in Denmark’s Guldhoj (Golden Hill) during an excavation. The stool, a classic piece of Danish modern furniture, was created by Hundevad in 1960 based on the sketches that they found there. The stool is therefore the oldest preserved piece of furniture in the country. The original stool is part of the permanent collection at the National Museum of Denmark. It is a solid teak folding frame, featuring a sling leather seat and a descriptive label on the underside. Lovely wear and patination to the leather along stress/fold points. Teak frame in solid vintage condition, a beautiful vintage piece.
