Early 19th Century Cornish English West Country Windsor Stick Chair, Farmhouse

About the Item

A scarce highly original example of an early 19th century West Country Windsor armchair. Plain tapered legs untied by an H-form stretcher. The solid elm seat with subtle saddle shaping. Two tapered arm supports and two plain stick supports with seven long sticks, morticed through the single arm bow and up into the tall back hoop - this having the flattened profile, typical of chairs of this type. The whole piece in utterly untouched condition and with a fetching patina from 200 years of daily use. West Country, attributed to Cornwall, circa 1820. Measures: H: 114cm D: 57cm D: 56cm.
