About the Item
Pair of walnut leather wing chairs
This pair of walnut leather wing chairs with the solid walnut underframe were made circa 1920.
This dramatic pair of wing chairs have the walnut legs that finish on Spanish feet, these are joined by a carved and shaped front rail. The legs are joined by turned pole stretchers, that join to the block and turned back legs.
The high back with the drop shoulders run down to the wings, that in turn sweep down to the rolled arm rests.
We have reupholstered and covered these wing chairs in fine English leather.
Our skilled upholsterer covers the chair in fine English leather, securing it with hundreds of brass studs, another painstaking job that takes skill, many hours and a great deal of patience.
The leather is applied in its raw state before our expert painstakingly hand dyes the leather to our tobacco colour. Please do not confuse this art, to the pre-dyed mass-produced leathers (mostly are leathercloth, where a slither of leather is applied to another material) that give a contrived plastic feel.
The dye is applied using many coats, a clever use of our expert’s skill comes into play as she gives subtle colour changes to areas to show wear and how a chair would look if the leather was 100 years old. The chair now recovered in leather so this can go on for use for the next century, where these skills will no longer be around.
