18th Century European Rustic Dovetailed Pine Chest or Coffer

About the Item

Rustic dovetailed pine chest or coffer, Europe, late 18th century. Likely Austrian or German, this rustic European, hand-crafted chest is loaded with character and has a wonderful, weathered patina with a time-worn glow. It has dovetail construction, original iron side handles and turned bun style feet. It retains the lock mechanism, but it is unlocked. A beautiful trunk with a simple design, nice details and lots of warmth. A versatile piece for any room. It is a great size for use as a small coffee table. Structurally sound and sturdy.

A masterfully crafted stand of figured walnut featuring a single paneled drawer with a finished interior and two shelves between Renaissance style end supports. A beautifully made piece joined with a type of mortise and tenon where the mortise part is cleverly hidden. The tray form top has two sturdy, carved handles and back lip edge.
