19th Century Solid Teak Dutch Colonial Chest Strongbox With Brass Hardware

About the Item

Rare, solid Dutch Colonial teak and brass strongbox. This chest is built like the vault it was meant to be. Heavy, strong wood and weighty hardware including cast iron handles and hinges adorn this uncompromisingly crafted strong box that was likely used by elite officers for transporting and storing Dutch East India Company valuables and important documents. Tray, compartments and brass padlock hardware all intact. Some minor hairline cracks with age but they only add character. This chest is built to last and a true conversation piece. Will not be seen again. Incorporate as a coffee table or store behind a sofa or at the foot of the bed. It will not cease to impress.
