About the Item

This beautiful trunk was made in western Germany in the early 19th century circa 1800. It was made completely in the finest quality European summer oak. The dovetail joints connecting all four sides are clearly visible and show great craftsmanship. The chest has a curved dome top fitted with a patinated brass knob. The piece is elevated on a molded plinth with bracket feet. The trunk has authentic forged steel hinges in place as well as its fully working lock with key. It is equipped with an interior compartment with a small lid. This compartment was used for storing jewelry, while the “good” clothing would go in the rest of the trunk. The lid of the interior compartment can be used to keep the trunks dome top in an upright position. The chest is stained very dark brown and shows many marks of use with a deep patina and soft gloss. The piece was gently cleaned throughout and a new protective wax layer was added. The trunk is now clean, solid, and ready for use.
