About the Item

This charming late 18th-century pine blanket chest reflects the straightforward craftsmanship and honest beauty of early American Chippendale furniture. The design, with its clean lines, molded edges, and bracket feet, captures the understated elegance typical of rural cabinetmakers of the period. Built from solid pine, the chest has developed a rich amber tone over time, offering the warmth and character that define well-preserved early American furniture. The chest features two full-width drawers beneath the lift-top compartment, offering both ample storage and versatility—an uncommon yet practical configuration for this form. The drawers retain later brass pulls that complement the simple molding and slightly overhanging top. Originally designed to store blankets and linens, this piece now serves beautifully as an accent chest in a bedroom, hallway, or country-inspired interior. In nice antique condition consistent with age and use, the chest shows surface wear, scattered dings, and minor shrinkage cracks expected from an 18th-century piece. There are older repairs to the legs that were well done and remain sturdy. The drawers function smoothly, and the overall structure is solid. A fine example of early American pine furniture with enduring charm and presence. 44h x 38w x 19d
