A Charles II Oak Carved Coffer

About the Item

A wonderful Charles II Carved Oak Coffer Circa 1670, with three front plain panels sitting below a carved foliage freeze. Initialed TR on each side of center lock with a two plank hinged lid, (hinges appear to be original) sitting on stile feet. The depth of the rich oak color is phenomenal. This is in really good condition when considering the age and travels this piece has endured over the years

    Replacements made: The bottom has at some point been replaced. Additions or alterations made to the original: The timber supports to the underside are additions. Lock appears to be replaced. Hinges appear to be original. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use. Some stains to the oak surface including ring marks and some discoloration, some old splits and cracks, there are no keys and some signs of old woodworm.

  • An 18th Century Oak Cupboard
    Located in Flower Mound, TX
    A splendid example of a 18th Century Georgian oak cupboard from around 1760. The exterior shell is genuine and untouched, with the interior have some modifications and improvements added through the years. The right side door opens to a compartment with hanging pegs and the bottom is open to a short drawer. The left hand side has the same pegging with later added shelving and brass latch. The bottom is closed with a full drawer. Cupboard does have a key. The coloring is absolutely beautiful. Provenance: The Fulwood Collection The Fulwood Collection comes from a Grade II listed rectory in the North of England. Formerly the childhood home of Sir Douglas Bader. The rectory was acquired by the late owner approximately 15 years ago. The house was formerly split into two separate houses, and with care he lovingly refurbished it back into a single house and refurnished in a blend of the Grand Tour style with Welsh and English provincial tastes. This property contained fine furniture, works of art, paintings, ceramics and other miscellaneous items some of which were purchased by “The Englishman’s Antiques
