About the Item

Fine Italian Florentine giltwood cassone or marriage chest in relief decorated pastiglia, the slightly arched lid with central sejant-rampant lion flanked by two crests with three crescent moons separated by a chevron, the front having three artisans; an artist, a sculptor and a stone mason, each within an arched panel flanked by Tuscan columns; the sides each adorned with further family crests, the interior with original till and wrought iron handles.

Above this, in the center, a scrollwork cartouche once bore coats of arms. On either side, there is an abundant vegetal decor with vine branches and sumptuous grape clusters.
