The Village of Muir (formerly Montrose) was establsihed on cleared lands in 1856, by Blanchard and Blanchard, this was subsequently purchased by a group of land bankers lead by A. L. Soule, with the aim of establishing a Saw Mill on the river and with the extention West of the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad, encouraged H K Muir, the Superintendent of the Detroit and Milwaukee railway to pass the railway through the village.
