Vibrant and richly detailed, this small Chinese red lacquered blanket chest was designed as a traditional wedding gift and carries with it layers of symbolic meaning and decorative appeal. The rectangular form is finished in a bold cinnabar lacquer, its surface hand-painted in gilt with auspicious motifs that celebrate union, longevity, and protection. The lid is centered with a stylized medallion framed by bats and scrolling foliage—classic emblems of happiness and good fortune. A traditional iron clasp secures the top, which opens to reveal a yellow fabric-lined interior, the color itself associated with prosperity and imperial favor.
