1890s Revival Renaissance Florentine bench chest in solid hand carved ebonized walnut , polished to wax Measures cm: H 52\152 W 137 D 45\15. HISTORY AND CURIOSITY ON THIS TYPE OF FURNITURE: This type of furniture was born during the sixteenth century in Tuscany, and then expanded more in the rest of Italy. As the years went by, these pieces of furniture were enriched with Mannerist style carvings and the supports became a single body with leonine or corner ends. In the early twentieth century they were used to furnish offices of important lawyers and notaries.
