Mid-18th Century Rustic German Trunk ~ Blanket Chest

About the Item

Mid-18th century Rustic German Trunk ~ Blanket chest was hand-crafted to contain a young woman's dowry, with her name carved into the top alongside the date of her wedding ~ Cathrina Cornarens, 1751! The front facade is also embellished with intriguing stencil-style relief carvings, recessed panels and pyramidal panels, below which is a horizontally fluted and scroll-cut apron. Sled-style legs appear on both sides, above which are the forged iron bale handles, complementing the iron strap hinges that allow the top to open wide providing ample storage within. Such keepsakes make great coffee tables in today's decor, with the added benefit of the storage capability. Sculpted from solid old-growth oak to last for generation after generation!. Dated 1751. Measures 21.5H x 65W x 20.5D.
