18th Century New England Country American Single Drawer Blanket Mule Chest
Located in Forney, TX
A scarce antique early American country single drawer lift-top faux grain painted blanket chest - mule chest with beautifully aged warm rich patina, circa 1780 Hand-crafted in the New England region of the Northeastern United States in the second half of the 18th century, comprised of solid wood, most likely pine or poplar, since expensive woods were hard to find throughout the Colonies, especially the rural areas, it features the original rich warm Colonial hand painted faux cherry graining finish and beautifully aged reddish brown patina. Crafted in period English Chippendale taste, having a hinged lid door at the top that flips open to reveal the large sized storage trunk, fitted with a small compartment for storing smaller items. Over a single full-length drawer with quality hand-cut dovetail joinery and affixed with an unusual trio of brass batwing pulls. Raised on ogee bracket feet with carved and molded edge trim. Provenance: A wonderfully curated Clarance, Upstate New York private estate Dimensions: (approx) 32.5" High, 48.5" Wide, 19" Deep Versatile: Ideal large size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a bedroom commode dresser, farmhouse dining sideboard server - buffet table, credenza, oversized console table...

18th Century, Nantucket Origin, Coffin Family Stand-Up Blanket Chest
Located in York County, PA
18th CENTURY, NANTUCKET-ORIGIN, STAND-UP BLANKET CHEST, EXUBERANTLY PAINT-DECORATED, OWNED BY THE COFFIN FAMILY AND NICKNAMED "THE TIGER CHEST" BY FAMILY MEMBERS, WHO HANDED IT DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION, CIRCA 1780-90 Stand-up blanket chest over two drawers, exuberantly painted, in a Folk Art manner, with fancifully scalloped, boot jack ends and skirt, attractively proportioned. The decoration consists of widely-spaced, curving lines, in a loose interpretation of elaborate wood grain. The result is all-together bold and whimsical, with a degree of visual impact seldom achieved among its counterparts, placing it among the best of its kind. The story that accompanies the chest solidifies its importance in both American history and decorative arts. It was handed down through generations of the Coffin family on Nantucket, where it was very likely made. Anyone who knows the island well, knows that the Coffin name is practically synonymous with Nantucket itself. The Coffins were a whaling family who both settled the island (purchasing it with a group of investors for 30 pounds and 2 beaver hats...
