Pair of Inlaid Wedding Dowry Chests
About the Item
An unusual pair of inlaid dowry or wedding chests. Beautiful inlay of different color glass patterns and carved areas. The entire surface has been painted then has gold leaf splotches applied. They have Maltese type crosses and greenish glass border trim. Please look at the wonderful inlaid floral patterns as well. These are highly decorative chests. We would guess they are possibly Indian, but really not sure. Thought they might be late 19th/early 20th century but they have allen screws holding in the hinges so they are more recent or have been redone.
They are in overall good condition, although there is some serious bowing or warping to the tops, please see the detailed pictures. There is some inlay missing, although with so much going on, it's difficult to spot.
