About the Item

Grand-scaled Early 19th C. Swedish marriage chest with hand painted decoration, hardware and hinged candle box. Deep green field with undertones of darkest teal, with traditional hand-painted florals in mustards and ochre florals. Monogramed and dated "1820", this trunk was likely a dowry or wedding present. Wonderful dome top with metal strapping and functional, well-secured and heavy duty side hardware for lifting. Top hinge in good working order, with steel runners to back having age wear and some losses. The size and storage capability of this incredible antique are only matched by its pure visual beauty. The charm of a piece this old feels warm, earthy and REAL. Whether it's the European old world home, or one filled with Folk Art, this wonderful trunk will be the most special addition to a collected space.
