19th Century Flemish Neoclassical Bookcase

About the Item

19th Century Flemish Neoclassical Bookcase boasts a tailored look with very subtle style enhancements inspired by ancient architecture. A bold multi-tiered crown overlooks the bonnet which features an elongated pyramidal block at the center flanked by shell and foliate carvings in bas relief, which in turn are flanked on each corner with another brace of pyramidal blocks. A tier of molding separates the bonnet from the casework below, flanked by fluted corner posts topped with elegant corbel forms. Each cabinet door consists of an upper beveled glass pane and a lower framed panel adorned with a large pyramidal block at the center and four more positioned in the surrounding border, with the entire work framed again to match the framework of the beveled glass above. The cornerposts at the height of the lower door panels feature fletching motif carved right into the wood itself, leading the eye down to the boldly executed multi-tiered base set up with half-bun feet. Even the side panels are finely framed providing visual appeal no matter the viewing angle. Doors are mounted on external hinges allowing wide opening for easy access to the four original adjustable shelves and floor surface, providing an almost unlimited configuration to store and display your books, prized possessions, family memorabilia or cherished collection. Hand-crafted from dense, quarter sawn oak to last for generations! Circa 1880s Measures 79H x 61W x 20D
