Anglo Indian Padouk Bookcase

About the Item

Very stylish 19th century Anglo-Indian padouk rosewood cabinet with four glazed doors. Having finely carved decoration to the cornice and plinth mouldings. 'Anglo-Indian' is the term used to describe furniture and furnishings made in India from the 18th century onwards by Indian cabinetmakers for the Colonial British market and wealthy locals, it was a fusion of styles and techniques of the two cultures.
