About the Item

A super quality William IV Cuban mahogany two door bookcase / cabinet dating to c.1830. With a stepped moulded cornice above two glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with a moulded top above a long drawer with a cleverly concealed writing slope and a pair of moulded panelled cupboard doors below, all raised on a plinth base. Featuring decorative carved scrolling corbels and unusual self locking mechanism for the left doors. In good condition, of elegant proportions and with a beautiful deep colour and striking figuring, this bookcase has the signs of quality of a maker such as Gillows of Lancaster. Overall dimensions (approximately) Width - 51.25in (130cm) Depth - 22.25in (56.5cm) Height - 94.5in (240cm) Dismantles into three sections for moving (cornice, upper section, base section) Internal dimensions Writing slope - 19.625in wide x 12.25in deep (50cm x 31cm) Top shelves - 44.5in wide x 10in deep (103cm x 25.5cm) Ref: 0716
