About the Item

Circa 1860s Sheraton revival English breakfront bookcase cabinet. Mahogany. Stately proportions & exceptional quality. From a country house in Sussex, it displays the expected fine details of design and construction. Note how the molding on crown plays off the lappet design at the tops & bases of each reeded quarter column. The plinth base reflects the crown molding. The line inlays repeat even on the shelf edges. And the glazed doors & inlaid, cross-banded cabinet doors are all exceptional, down to the use of three sets of hinges on the upper doors (rarely seen after the 18th century).
