An Early 20th Century Glazed Oak Bookcase - In The Manner Of Samuel Pepys c.1910

About the Item

Presenting an impressive early 20th-century glazed oak bookcase inspired by the renowned Samuel Pepys, circa 1910. This piece pays homage to the original Samuel Pepys 1666 bookcases, currently exhibited at Oxford University. Featuring unusual carved Jacobean doors at the base and a pair of glazed doors at the top, it retains its original glass, adding to its authenticity and charm. Raised on turned bun feet, this bookcase exudes elegance and sophistication. With a rich patina throughout, it stands as a lovely example of timeless craftsmanship. This bookcase is modeled after the iconic Samuel Pepys design from circa 1666, considered one of the earliest domestic bookcases. Pepys initiated discussions with 'Simpson the Joiner' on July 23rd, 1666, resulting in twelve original bookcases housed in the Biblio-theca Pepysiana at Magdalene, Cambridge, with another example found in the V. & A. museum.
