About the Item

This exceptional bookcase, designed by Fabrizio Mangoni for his own interior in 1969, is a testament to his architectural ingenuity and refined aesthetic. Crafted by a local Italian carpenter, the piece is constructed from solid pine wood, with slats meticulously connected by metal pins and finished with hexagonal bolts at the front side. Its bold and distinctive design reflects Mangoni’s creative vision and is clearly inspired by Gerrit Rietveld’s iconic armchair, echoing its geometric and modernist elements. Since it is nicely finished all around and free standing, this can also be used as room divider. The bookcase boasts an asymmetrical structure, lending it a dynamic and sculptural presence. It features two brass display plates, perfect for showcasing decorative objects or books. Adding to its versatility, the design incorporates two brass-finished cabinet doors that can be positioned according to your preference, enhancing both functionality and style. This large-scale piece is not only a functional storage solution but also an artwork in its own right, embodying the mind of an architect who sought to merge design with practicality. Its rarity and uniqueness make it a standout addition to any interior, a true conversation piece for enthusiasts of modernist and mid-century design. In very good original condition with nice patina preserved over time. Fabrizio Mangoni was not only a gifted academic and gastronomist but also a visionary architect whose work reflected his deep understanding of urban dynamics and human-centric design. As a professor of Urban Planning at the University of Naples Federico II, Mangoni dedicated his career to shaping cities that harmonized with their inhabitants and natural surroundings. His architectural philosophy went beyond mere functionality, emphasizing the importance of social connection, cultural identity, and environmental sustainability. Mangoni’s designs often blended traditional elements with contemporary solutions, embodying his respect for history and innovation. He believed that architecture was not just about buildings but about creating spaces where people could live meaningful, interconnected lives. His projects celebrated the intricate relationship between people and their environment, whether through revitalizing public spaces, reimagining urban housing, or preserving historical sites. One of Mangoni’s most notable contributions was his advocacy for integrating local materials and craftsmanship into urban design. This approach not only preserved regional heritage but also fostered a sense of belonging within communities. His legacy as an architect is one of inspiration and transformation. Fabrizio Mangoni demonstrated that architecture is an art form capable of shaping not only physical landscapes but also the emotional and social fabric of society.
