Fine Art Deco Macassar Ebony Vitrine Display Cabinet by Gouffé ca. 1930

About the Item

A FINE ART DECO MACASSAR EBONY VITRINE DISPLAY CABINET WITH BLIND-DOOR BOOKCASES Retains original label inside drawer for manufacturer GOUFFÉ à PARIS France, ca. 1930 Item # 310KWO02P A positively gorgeous Art Deco period vitrine display cabinet, the somewhat typical form for the era features a central display area sealed behind a glass door and storage for books on the right and left behind blind doors. Because of its thin profile at just 16 1/2" in depth, the vitrine perfectly balances a gorgeous form and useful dimensions without in any way overwhelming a space. The central door is surrounded by a molded brass-plated rim and opens to reveal a vibrant birch-veneered interior with adjustable glass shelves, this over two drawers with molded hardware. The entire form is raised over a sleigh-form footing with brass-plated toe sabots on the extreme tips. The cabinet was executed by the renowned firm of Maison Gouffé in Paris during the 1930s, the same workshop where Jean Royere trained and eventually had many of his designs produced through. Measurements: 56 7/8" H x 16 1/2" D x 51 1/4" W Condition Report: French polish with some scuffing and light wear; some light checkering to the finish of the top where it seems a blanket or other material may have touched the surface too long - we have had this polished out as much as possible without going the further step of professional refinishing and it has minimized the vast majority of the texture, but it is still visible under raking light; sides and base with minor scuffs/abrasions/spots of discoloration; rather minor veneer rubbing/loss to edges; overall a brilliant vintage presentation with great color throughout; new 3/8" tempered glass shelving throughout. Locks in good working condition with keys. • Large Art Deco Cerused Oak Display Cabinet Bookcase circa 1940
    Located in Shippensburg, PA
ART DECO CERUSED AND EBONIZED OAK DISPLAY CABINET WITH FLANKING BLIND BOOKSHELVES Probably German, as the locks are of German origin executed circa 1940 with chromed steel accents throughout Item # 401QGP02S A fabulous Art Deco era display cabinet, the substantial case piece features a glazed central door flanked by two blind-doors on either side. These open to reveal an adjustably shelved interior, the oak bars on the side allowing the 3/8" thick glass shelves to be flexibly changed to suit the books stored within. The central door features a chromed rim around the glass door that cohesively ties in with the chrome-plated keyhole escutcheons and the chrome base molding on the bottom of the cabinet. It was probably made in Germany, as one of the locks bears markings of German manufacture, though the craftsman may have simply had a preference for this locking mechanism and imported it. Note the high-grade of cabinet work throughout - all surfaces have been carefully veneered with a cerused and ebonized oak, the interior of the center display area with a red-stained cerused oak and the interior of each flanking cabinet space lined with mahogany veneers. Importantly, despite the incredibly spacious proportions, the entire cabinet can be disassembled for safe transport. The top is removed with bolts on the inside corners...
