French Provincial Waxed Pine Bookcase Display Cabinet Cupboard

About the Item

FRENCH WAXED PINE DISPLAY CABINET OR CUPBOARD Circa mid-to-late 19th century Item # 306REP14A A delightful French Provincial cabinet of the 19th century, it features a positively gorgeous scrubbed and waxed pine surface throughout that shows a well-developed patina. We love these pieces with historical surfaces that show how they have touched and used extensively over the decades - or in this case, for well over a century. The cabinet is designed to be light and easily moved around - the choice of pine is certainly a part of that, but also the choice by the cabinetmaker to exclude a bottom for the upper cabinet - the top of the lower cabinet serves as the bottom for the upper cabinet. The upper cabinet easily lifts off with two huge dowels that drop into the top of the lower cabinet for stability. It features a pair of glazed doors that open to reveal a silver-painted interior with adjustable shelving. The lower cabinet has a single shelf. A very nice presentation. Measurements: 90 1/4" H x 52 1/2" W x 20" D Condition Report: Wonderful scrubbed pine surface throughout with a warm waxed overall patina; surface history, nicks, dings, abrasions, etc. as expected; the interior of the upper cabinet has been painted a silvery-gray, probably late 20th century; the lower cabinet has a replaced shelf of somewhat inferior making - this could easily be painted, upholstered or simply replaced with a better quality shelf; sturdy and strong throughout. Locks are non-functioning throughout and doors remain closed using modern magnetic catches that were added at some point in the late 20th century. • Large Art Deco Cerused Oak Display Cabinet Bookcase circa 1940
    Located in Shippensburg, PA
ART DECO CERUSED AND EBONIZED OAK DISPLAY CABINET WITH FLANKING BLIND BOOKSHELVES Probably German, as the locks are of German origin executed circa 1940 with chromed steel accents throughout Item # 401QGP02S A fabulous Art Deco era display cabinet, the substantial case piece features a glazed central door flanked by two blind-doors on either side. These open to reveal an adjustably shelved interior, the oak bars on the side allowing the 3/8" thick glass shelves to be flexibly changed to suit the books stored within. The central door features a chromed rim around the glass door that cohesively ties in with the chrome-plated keyhole escutcheons and the chrome base molding on the bottom of the cabinet. It was probably made in Germany, as one of the locks bears markings of German manufacture, though the craftsman may have simply had a preference for this locking mechanism and imported it. Note the high-grade of cabinet work throughout - all surfaces have been carefully veneered with a cerused and ebonized oak, the interior of the center display area with a red-stained cerused oak and the interior of each flanking cabinet space lined with mahogany veneers. Importantly, despite the incredibly spacious proportions, the entire cabinet can be disassembled for safe transport. The top is removed with bolts on the inside corners...
