About the Item

Extravagant Pierre Vandel black lacquered aluminum étagères with brass detailing and black glass shelves. Labelled - Pierre Vandel Paris - Circa late 1970s. The cleanly defined lines of this shelving would be perfect for displaying studio pottery or art glass, etc. The object which stands out for its clarity and the special division of the shelves that makes the design distinctive. A lacquered original object from the 7190s usually has scratches and damages to the lacquer that takes away the value and beauty of the object. Therefore, we decided to restore the shelf, which was enormously costly and time-consuming. The work steps were as follows: - Shelf completely disassembled in 68 single pieces (see our list) -Took out all the retracted brass strips and retracted an alternative green strip for it. - All individual parts were polished and lacquered 2 times. - All brass strips retracted again - Object reassembled. For this reason, this shelf from the 70's is in very good condition, only one brass stripe have a loss of color at the lower end, please see the last image. PIERRE VANDEL Furniture designer Pierre Vandel was born in 1946 in Roubaix, on the outskirts of Lille in France. He is best known for his angular designs, which exude the glamorous yet minimalist aesthetic that heavily dominated French furniture and lighting design in the 1970s. His friendship with the iconic fashion designer Pierre Cardin proved to be a real turning point in Vandel’s design career, launching him into international success. Cardin supported Vandel’s efforts by encouraging him to create his own brand, Pierre Vandel – Paris, and then spread the word to the rich and famous, who purchased Vandel’s designs.
