French Bookcase in Burl Elmwood

About

French, circa mid-late 1800s bookcase, of gigantic proportions being over 17’ long and it arrived from France in the most atrocious shade of a dark orange stain you have ever seen. For a very long time we debated about cutting it into two or three smaller cabinets that would be easier to sell. In this process, we made the decision to hand scrape (using no chemicals) the old finish off and see what the wood looked like underneath and we were pleasantly shocked to discover burl elmwood. Our Old Plank workshop thoroughly went through the structure and made keys for all the locks. The cabinet is currently in a stripped state and can be used as is or stained any way you wish? Measuring 17' 4" it is the largest all original antique French bookcase we have ever owned.
