About the Item

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this super rare, Important and highly collectable pair of Regency circa 1810-1820 hand carved depicting flowers, Waterfall bookcases in Rosewood over a pine frame Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price What a find.... If you are reading this listing then the chances are you know just how amazing and rare this pair are, I have never seen in real life a full sized waterfall bookcase, usually they are dwarf in size meaning around one meter tall, I have never seen a pair from this period and I have absolutely never seen any with this level of carvings, they have exquisite flowers to the middle and top sides, they are sublime! The bookcases are Rosewood over a pine carcass, the shelves are all removable and height adjustable, they are over 200 years old and look and feel every bit of their age We have cleaned waxed and polished the pair from top to bottom, there will be normal age and use related patina marks here and there, as you can see in the pictures, someone cut a square out of the back panel of the second pictured bookcase, naturally when your books are in place this can't be seen Dimensions Height:- 210cm Width:- 117cm Depth:- 38cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

Pair of Mahogany Waterfall Bookcases by Gillows of Lancaster
Located in London, GB
Each crossbanded in rosewood, with four graduating shelves, with turned tapering reeded supports, brass caps and casters. The pair of bookcases have recessed reeded columns in the Pompeian manner and are framed by ‘ribboned’ rosewood. In 1801, Gillows of London and Lancaster supplied a closely related pair of bookcases to Luke Dillon, 2nd Lord Clonbrock to furnish his new library at his ancestral home, Clonbrock in Co. Galway. They were sold by Mr. and Mrs Luke Dillon-Mahon, Clonbrock, Christie’s house sale, 1st November 1976, Lot 12. The fashionable ‘moving bookcase’ of this type featured in Thomas Sheraton’s Appendix to the Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Drawing Book, 1802 (pl.23). Provenance: Most likely supplied to Robert Ferguson...
