Stunning custom made wall unit made in Italy in the 1950s. The bookcase highlights the makers architectural sensibility and refined taste for elegant proportions. The composition is based on four columns, each configured to accommodate various open and closed storage units. The lower level consists of four enclosed cabinets, each retaining its original lacquered colors: turquoise, sun yellow, Chinese red, and antique ivory. The upper section contains open shelves marked by fine contours and apertures along the sides. If desired, the arrangement of the compartments can be adjusted to one's own liking. The sideboard is accompanied by a ladder adorned with leather. It can either be mounted on the wall or securely attached to the elongated brass rim, facilitating access to the upper shelves with ease. The design revolves around the principle that a decoration is subordinate to the constructive element, focusing on the essential composition of geometric forms and usage of materials. The black lacquered elements not only provide structural reinforcement but also significantly shape the design, accentuating the exceptional craftsmanship evident in this wall unit. All in, the bookcase reflects the design principles of the Mid-Century era that rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s.
