In beautiful light oak color Origin: England Period: Approx. 1900 Size 260cm x 29/25cm x h.240cm The history of the famous Globe Wernicke brand Globe-Wernicke is a well-known name in the history of office furniture and bookcases. The company is best known for its modular bookcases that became popular in the early 20th century. Here's a brief history of Globe-Wernicke: Globe-Wernicke was founded as an American company in 1899 as a result of a merger between two companies: the Globe Files Company and the Wernicke Company. Globe Files Company originally produced filing cabinets, while Wernicke Company was known for its bookcases. Globe-Wernicke became famous for its innovative modular bookcases. These bookcases were made up of individual sections with glass doors and could easily be attached or stacked together to expand book storage. This modular design was convenient and popular in homes and offices. The company obtained a patent on the “Elastic Bookcase” design in 1899, which was an important milestone in Globe-Wernicke's history. This design made it possible to make bookcases expandable and customizable. Globe-Wernicke quickly expanded, opening branches in several countries, including the United Kingdom and Canada, making it known worldwide. Although the original Globe-Wernicke company no longer exists in its original form, its legacy continues to live on in the form of antique bookcases and office furniture that are collected and cherished by historic furniture enthusiasts. Today, antique Globe-Wernicke bookcases are often found in collectors' circles and are prized for their craftsmanship and historical significance in the world of furniture design and office furniture.
