About the Item

Biedermeier Bookcase or Display Cabinet North Germany Mahogany 1st half of the 19th century Dimensions: H x W x D: 210 x 118 x 38 cm Description: Beautiful bookcase from the North German Biedermeier period. Pedestal level standing on pointed feet with one drawer. The drawer can be locked from inside the cabinet with a split pin, a rare and unusual system. The two doors each consist of three glazed panels. The special wooden bracing is worth mentioning here. This consists of three layers of differently coloured wood. A fine piece of work that must have taken the carpenter a great deal of time and labour at the time and is a testament to the attention to detail of this piece of furniture. The head of the piece of furniture is roughly the same height as the plinth. It ends at the top with a slightly protruding moulding and a triangular pediment so typical of the Biedermeier period. There are four height-adjustable shelves inside the bookcase. The cabinet can be completely dismantled for transport. Condition: Excellently restored and in perfect condition. The dark mahogany wood has been lightly bleached and has a pleasant warm colour due to the shellac hand polish.
