Small Transition Bookcase With Support Height Stamped RVLC

About the Item

Exceptional bookcase with support height made of brown Rio rosewood veneer and topped with a red Languedoc marble top, opening two leaves on the front and presenting a beautiful ornamentation of finely chiseled gilt bronze. Stamped RVLC and Jurande hallmark on the front right upright. A commissioned piece of furniture, rare within the production of the master cabinetmaker, in particular due to the wood used and the sobriety of the marquetry, but the elegance and perfection of the lines are there to attest to the excellence of this work. Former collection of General Leblanc (1896, 1989) Roger Lacroix (1728 - 1799) was also called Roger Vandercruse according to the Flemish surname of his father, he was a famous cabinetmaker of the Parisian nobility who supplied the Duke of Orléans, Madame du Barry, King Louis XVI and the court in general. Received master in 1755, Roger Vandercruse was one of the great representatives of the Transition style. Very good condition – fully restored by our workshop – natural french polish finish
