Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this super rare, highly collectable, Antique Seymour Easton 1859-1916 Tabard Inn Library Revolving bookcase stand. Carved with Thomas Carlyle quote, "The true University of these days is a collection of books". This is pretty much the finest and most collectable revolving bookcase in the world, its also the largest I have ever seen. Hand carved in solid oak, you have two sides just for books, then two sides with inspirational quotes, they read as follows SIDE 1 "The True University" is carved at the top with open shelves below SIDE 2 "Of These Days" carved at the top followed by six carved shields, under which on the left "BIOGRAPHY" "POETRY" "HISTORY" and lastly on the right "SOCIOLOGY" "ART" "MECHANICS" SIDE 3 "Is a Collection of" carved at the top with open shelves below SIDE 4 "Books - Carlyle" carved at the top with six shields under and on the left side "FICTION" "POLITICS" "COMMERCE" on the right side "TRAVEL" "SCIENCE" "RELIGION" Seymour Easton 1859-1916 made these bookcases around 1902, Easton started the Tabard Inn Library, it was a membership Library with stations in the form of these revolving bookcases located in drugs stores and other commercial establishments throughout the united states We have cleaned waxed and polished it, the revolving action works perfectly, they frame is strong and stable, there will be good honest patination from the last 120+ years of use Dimensions Height:- 201cm Width:- 67.5cm Depth:- 67.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
