19th Century Biedermeier Empire Neo-Classical St. Burl Walnut Buffet

About the Item

A handsome and high quality 19th century Biedermeier Empire Neo-Classical st. burl walnut buffet. The buffet is raised by topie shaped feet below a burl walnut frieze richly decorated by a twisted ribbon ormolu band that continues on the sides. Above is a large central door flanked by a door on each side and an interior shelf. The center door has an ebony insert with an inlaid and painted "Urn of Prosperity' amidst floral garlands and an ormolu reeded frame. The side doors have similar ebony reserves with hand painted inlays of Poseidon, god of the sea and his wife, the sea goddess Amphitrite, both holding tridents. The central drawer is decorated with a large ormolu mount while the two outer have ormolu drawer pulls. Flanking the three top drawers are superbly chased ormolu mounts of open wing eagles. The burl walnut veneered top has a repeated central reserve of the urn of prosperity. With all original gilt and hardware throughout.
