19th Century French Henri II Walnut Buffet
About the Item
19th Century French Henri II walnut buffet is a fine example of the revival of neoclassical style during the reign of Napoleon III. Utilizing sumptuous, hand-select French walnut, the artisans skillfully created a round-sided casework with slight projections above the two forward-facing pilasters. A horizontally rounded facade creates an extension of the crown effect, which houses the single drawer between the aforementioned pilasters, and overlooks the three panels below. The panels are of a very tailored nature, finely framed in molding, and designed to glorify the amazing natural beauty of the prized indigenous wood. The pilasters feature a corbel with rosette above, an intriguing stylized lion's head formed from acanthus plumes, and upturned lotus blossoms at the base creating the pediment. Bold base molding surrounds the bottom, with bun feet to complete the support. Matching pilasters also appear at the rear corners facing perpendicular to the front, for incredibly majestic visual appeal from all angles!
