19th Century French Provincial Oak Buffet or Sideboard

About the Item

A 19th Century French provincial sideboard or buffet in Louis XV style. Made of solid oak. Traditionally crafted oak body with 2 doors, 3 drawers and a slightly protruding moulded top. Florally carved front with beadwork decoration on the centre panel, frame and all around the doors and drawers. Rounded pilaster strips carved with flowers, leaves and braided ribbon end in artistically designed ‘pieds en escargot’ with semi-plastic vine tendrils and bunches of grapes. Two doors hung on large external brass fittings with richly moulded frames and curved coffered panels with carved leaves and tendrils in the upper section. Above, 3 drawers lying horizontally. Later mounted brass fittings. Inside, the sideboard is fitted with 2 shelves. Dimensions Height: 117 cm / 46.06 inch. Width: 143 cm / 56.29 inch. Depth: 49 cm / 19.29 inch. Shelf depth: 38 cm / 14.96 inch. Height of the shelves: 28 cm (11.02 inch) / 22 cm (8.66 inch) / 24 cm (9.44 inch) Internal dimensions of drawers: 10 cm (3.93 inch) high, 35 cm (13.77 inch) wide, 41 cm (16.14 inch) deep Good condition with slight signs of wear due to age. The left door is slightly warped, but can be closed with light pressure. Lower part of the frame board is missing. The old surface coating has been removed and the wood is currently unsealed, revealing the beautiful matt texture of the light-coloured oak.
