About the Item

ANTIQUE FRENCH CUPBOARD A provincial piece constructed from hand-hewn solid walnut. Two drawers over a two-door cupboard opening up to reveal shelves which could be removed if so desired. Layers of old paint, the top layer being an attractive dusky brick red, which has naturally worn from age and use with different coloured paint splatters, which probably indicate previous use in an artist’s studio or workshop. Originating from France, it has some age to it and probably originally dates from the mid-19th century, with later chrome-plated art nouveau handles dating from the early 20th century. The cabinet is in good vintage condition, it is solid and sturdy, and the joints are secure. There is cosmetic wear throughout, which adds to its charm and tells its story. There is some old worm present that we have treated for good measure. Approximate measurements: 106cm wide x 40cm deep x 105cm high.
