About the Item

A balance of weight and refinement, this four-door buffet offers a late interpretation of provincial modernism—its geometry distilled, its ornament pared back to elemental expressions of craft. The structure is grounded by a sculptural base, arched and bracketed in silhouette, lifting the cabinet into an architectural register that feels both rooted and elevated. The façade is defined by chamfered panels with subtly arched corner cuts—an abstract echo of earlier Gothic forms, now simplified in tune with mid-century restraint. The iron hardware, hand-forged and darkened by age, appears not as decoration, but as integral punctuation—a functional counterpoint to the oak’s even, golden grain. Attributed to a provincial workshop in the style of Charles Dudouyt, this piece reflects the enduring influence of his vocabulary—volumetric strength, recessed geometries, and a commitment to regional materials. But its silhouette has softened into the calm utility of the 1970s: less rustic revival, more modern pastoral. Produced in solid French oak, the buffet displays a finely radial grain across its framed panels and top. The craftsmanship is quietly rigorous: mortise-and-tenon joinery, pegged hinges, and surfaces worked by hand to a satin matte finish. Each door opens with a gentle weight, attesting to its material honesty. Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina. The oak has matured to a warm tone, touched by sunlight and softened by time. Its proportions and calm presence lend it to interiors that favor clarity over opulence. A sculptural anchor for a dining room, or a contemplative gesture in a gallery-like space. Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
