About the Item

A Chinese Qing dynasty period elm kang cabinet with everted flanges, three drawers, carved spandrels and dragon motifs. Created in China during the Qing dynasty, this Chinese kang cabinet features a rectangular top with central board, flanked with everted flanges. The façade is made of three drawers fitted with butterfly hardware and a carved panel in the lower section, connected to the top's underside with carved spandrels. The term kang comes from a platform destined to accommodate people atop, typically found in Northern China and made of hollow bricks allowing to burn fuel underneath to provide some heat. The furniture placed around had therefore to be low. With its nice proportions and carved decor, this Chinese kang cabinet will bring an exotic touch to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom, living room or hallway.
