French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Buffet, Signed Maison Forest

About the Item

An impressive and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Tulipwood, Kingwood, Ormolu and marble buffet, signed Maison Forest. The buffet is raised on solid Mahogany topie shaped feet with an Ormolu top band with an egg and dart design. Above each leg is a block decorated by richly chased rectangular Ormolu rosettes at the straight frieze, at the front, and at both ends of the curved sides. The two central doors have recessed panels with a quarter veneered inlays with curved corners at the top and cut corners at the bottom. The two doors flank a central vertical recessed panel with fanciful intertwined Ormolu floral branches tied at the top with a flowing ribbon. The two curved ends have a central shelf with a pierced Ormolu gallery and mirrored back panels. Above are the two central drawers with richly detailed inlaid rosettes while the curved end drawers have elegant inlays mimicking fluted designs with interior chandelles. At the top lays its original and thick Sarrancolin marble with its etched border and vertical back splash with a handsome Ormolu mount of 'S' scrolled acanthus leaves with a central cornucopia filled with fruits. All original hardware and gilding throughout.
