French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany Buffet
About the Item
An extraordinary 19th century French mahogany and marble buffet, Louis XVI in style, to take pride of place nearly anywhere in the home. The slab of Saint Anne marble exhibits the signature ribbons of light gray veining over the black stone; shaped with turreted corners at the front and flange at the back overhanging the pilasters. Two paneled drawers in the frieze open by ring pulls with small laurel and acanthus leaf decoration, flanking the urn-shaped escutcheons over working locks, sharing one key between them. In the case below, the two cabinet doors exhibit fine grain patterns and lustre, framed with a tiny pinstripe of ebonized marquetry to suggest paneling. The doors open in tandem from the right-side lock, sporting the same urn-shaped escutcheons as above, using the key as a pull. Inside is an adjustable shelf, 15” deep for generous storage in a dining room or living room. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax–ready for your interior.
