Italian Walnut Sideboard / Buffet / Credenza, 19th Century
About the Item
Credenza hand-made in Italy in the early 1800s using walnut. The credenza follows very typical Italian lines with molding used throughout to add depth and decoration to an, otherwise, pretty blocky piece. The scalloped bracket feet, ogee edge of the top and molding all help in softening the overall look of the piece. The credenza shows a three over three layout, with three drawers on top of three doors. On the inside a shelf divides the storing space in two levels. Each drawers shows beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The doors, drawer fronts and sides are all decorated with a rectangular frame made of applied hand-carved molding. The top is made of two long boards pegged to the case and presents ogee edges as well as cantered corners, following the shape of the case.
Overall this is a very large and spacious credenza that will add style as well as storing space to any room. Its overall lines make it perfect for both a formal setting as well as a more country setting, and it will fit very well with both antiques as well as modern furniture. The gorgeous color of the antique walnut exhumes warmth and will give any room it is added to a homey feeling

18th Century Bleached Walnut Italian Credenza, Buffet, Sideboard
Located in Carmine, TX
Walnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space.
Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...
