Large 19th Century French Carved Double Buffet from Brittany

About the Item

The extraordinary antique double buffet is from Brittany / Normandy region, France. It was made in the early 1800 (1820-1850). The heavy carving, turned wheel spokes and incredible detail show how much craftsmanship and detailed work went into creating this magnificent piece! Normandy is on the northern coast of France and because it is a coastal region nautical motifs are commonly seen on their furniture and case pieces. Armoires and buffets from this region featured the ship wheel motif as seen throughout this piece! As mentioned, each spoke is hand turned. This piece was acquired at an estate sale at a Chateau in the Bordeaux Region in France. This piece is in Excellent condition considering its age. It has some cloth lining the interior, which could be removed. There is a small crack on the side lower foot, which can be repaired by Antique Treasures Restoration Studio in Denver prior to shipping, A light restoration is recommended, but not necessary.
