Pair of French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany and Marble Buffets
About the Item
A striking pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany and marble buffets. Each buffet is raised by circular tapered fluted legs below a most decorative mottled border which extends along the base. At the center is a pair of door which open to reveal one shelf and original hardware. The doors display a recessed panel and are decorated with richly chased swaging berried laurel garlands and a foliate ormolu fillet. Leading out are fluted columns accented with foliate ormolu mounts and display shelves at each side. Above are three drawers, each with a fluted design, finely fitted ormolu chandelles with central ormolu pulls and keyhole escutcheons. Above are the original Fleur de Pêcher marble tops, with mottled borders, which follow the contour of the buffets.
